Building Technology I
Abstract:
In this module, we are exposed to a more extensive study of building construction by investigating the latest and more advanced technology and practice of the industry; from site analysis to all the advanced construction systems, energy efficiency, facade systems, architectural technology as well as the latest construction methods. In addition, it also intends to expose us to the study of construction through case studies of existing buildings and applying construction methods and systems of the building into our own design while addressing the issues pertaining to ecological impact.
PROJECT 2: Construction Solutions
This assignment is aligned with the final project of Architecture Design Studio 5 and aims to facilitate us in the technical studies and development of their design. It deals with the analysis and establishment of the structural and the envelope systems of our design to ensure that the design has logical and workable construction systems. It also encourages us to think about construction as an integral part of the design and not just an afterthought. Most of the times amateur designers tend to design their spaces without thinking about the construction aspects and later on have to change and redesign their schemes due to the designs were unbuildable. This assignment was designed with the intention to tackle this issue and to increase the technical competence of students.
The following shows the compilation of report of case studies for structural, roof and facade systems, and their applications in the design of the community library.

Project 1: Industralised Building System
This group project of six predominately relates to the topics of Industralised Building System (IBS). Firstly, we had to design a 3-storey apartment block using mainly IBS components and finally construct a physical model of the building to imitate the actual IBS construction process and to record all the process in a video.
The following showcases the outcome of the video presenting the concept of Industralised Building System (IBS) and the construction process of the 3-storey apartment block.
