ASIAN ARCHITECTURE

Asian Architecture is a module which explores the history of South, Southeast and East Asian architecture as a whole within a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design and city planning through contextual architecture, historical development and modernization and globalisation.

PROJECT PART A: CONTEXTUAL ARCHITECTURE STUDY

This first project is an individual assignment. Prior to Part A, we were required to form a group of 5-6 members and select a building in Asia within a suburban context which was to be used and studied throughout Part A and B of this project. Within Part A, we were to conduct an analysis of the contextual architecture of the selected building in terms of Space organisation and access hierarchy, Skyline, compression and height, Features relating to form of the building, Building materials and systems as well as Image making elements.

An A2 board of our individual analysis was to be produced. The building that we have chosen is The Kawana House, located in Sagami Bay, Kawana, Japan.

PROJECT PART B:

CASE STUDY PAPER

In a group of 5-6 members, we were to conduct a more in-depth analysis on the chosen building and identify a significant issue of study and then define the specific scope of the study. At the early stage of the project, we were required to do a concept mapping and a powerpoint presentation based on our findings to aid us in our final research paper. A good research title was to be decided and an A4 bounded report was to be produced.
